Imagine you are deeply in love. Hugging, kissing each other. Your family sees it – and reports you to the police! And because you are two girls kissing each other and that is forbidden in your country, you have to fear prison.

What might seem impossible, is a nightmare turned reality for two young girls in Morocco. The two 16 and 17 year old girls were reported to the police by one of their mothers – and arrested immediately.

Due to Article 489 of the Moroccan Penal Code „any person, who commits a lewd and unnatural act’ with an individual of the same sex, may be sentenced to six months to three years of imprisonment.” That’s what the two girls have been on trial for since the end of November 2016.

Many activist groups and concerned individuals were in shock. Major LGBT organisations – like All Out – allied behind the two girls to stand up for what is right. To stand up for the rights of lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people all around the globe.

That’s when they developed the idea of working together with MyPostcard: they teamed up with us and the L’Union Féministe Libre and started a solidarity campaign:

People from all over the world were able to send their solidarity postcards with MyPostcard to Morocco – to show the girls they are not alone – and donated for various projects fighting against sexual discrimination.

The good news: on the December 9th of 2016 the woman were acquitted in court and now are now free once more.

We are especially glad to support such an excellent campaign because all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights no matter who they love. This great promise of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has to be delivered for all of us. One love, one life, one heart…let’s stand together in the fight against discrimination!
