Postcards instead of Facebook & Instagram – despite the social media hype a lot of people don’t want to miss out on the traditional holiday greeting. But naturally the digitization has left its marks on the traditional way of sending a postcard. Buying a postcard, writing it, sticking a stamp on it, throwing it in the postbox – that’s old-fashioned by now. All of these steps can now be done by MyPostcard – the app delivers your words on real post cards and greeting cards worldwide.

German TV broadcaster ZDF Heute+ traveled to MyPostcard’s New York office to talk with Oliver Kray, the founder of the startup, and find out about his visions. For its news show heute+, the broadcaster took a little peek behind the scenes and visited the printing house of MyPostcard, where several thousand postcards are printed and sent worldwide daily. But the business is not only about Happy Birthday and holiday greetings, MyPostcard also supports political and social initiatives.

ZDF Heuteplus visit MyPostcard in New York - Founder Oliver Kray in Interview

In the ZDF interview Oliver Kray explains, why a real postcard has its own charm: posts on social media are quickly forgotten, the same goes for photos on the smartphone. A personalized postcard with your own picture on it has a bigger chance to stay in the recipient’s mind, for example hanging on their refrigerator door.

MyPostcard has become the most successful provider of postcard app services and has just expanded to the USA, to push forward its internationalization process. The Americans love postcards and use the app not only for holiday greetings, but also to send political messages to governments, senators and organizers. Even businesses employ the service of MyPostcard, for example using automatized post card delivery in the B2B sector, as advertising medium and personalized CRM method – for instance for individual birthday wishes.

The success story of MyPostcard shows that the traditional understanding of the greeting card has become obsolete. The startup adds a digital, modern touch to the postcard and therefore makes the process of sending postcards much easier, more individual and as personal as never before!
