Nasrin Sotoudeh, lawyer, 33 years imprisonment and 148 lashes, Evin prison
Nasrin Sotoudeh has campaigned for women's rights and against the headscarf compulsion in her home country. She was not intimidated and vehemently demanded compliance with Iranian law and minimum international standards. In addition, she continued to represent people who have been oppressed by the leadership of the Islamic Republic for years - women, human rights defenders and minorities. The mother of two was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament in 2012. Since 2018, she has been serving a 33-year sentence and 148 lashes in the infamous Evin prison. Nasrin Sotoudeh is a member of the IGFM Board of Trustees.
